Medicines that were once prescribed for a patient, may no longer be the best choice for the patient.

Deprescribing is a process of stopping a medicine or reducing the dose of a medicine that is no longer needed, appropriate or safe for the patient.

The aim of deprescrbing is to reduce potentially problematic (inappropriate) polypharmacy, adverse drug effects and ineffective medicines.
